Welcome To Reception
Class Teachers/EY Lead; Tilly O'Brien and Tina Kasamias
Early Year Educator; Emma Spiers
In Reception our priority is making sure our children feel settled, happy and confident coming to school. We strive to provide exciting and engaging experiences and learning opportunities and to enable all children to become independent learners.
Reception Routines:
Books- Please read with your children every night and let us know if your child enjoyed the story, found anything challenging or made progress with their reading by writing in their reading record. Books from the class library can be changed daily and reading scheme books will be changed once a week on your child’s reading day (see class board for day assigned)
PE- Every Tuesday 2:15-3:15pm. Please make sure your child has their PE kit
Mystery Reader- We are introducing Mystery Readers in Reception! Mystery Readers are special guests who come into the classroom for story time at 3pm. It can be parents, grandparents, older siblings or other relatives.
Children love to see people who are important to them involved in their learning at school. If you would like to be a mystery reader please speak to a member of the Reception Team.
On the day the children will be given 3 clues to see if they can guess who the mystery reader is. It is such an exciting experience, encouraging the love of books and creating memories together!
Clothing - We wear school uniform and would be very grateful if you could make sure all of your child’s clothing is labelled.
Please read the documents below for information about learning in Reception:
Home Learning
From our first meetings we learn so much about your child from you, you know them best and we strive to develop strong, positive and supportive relationships with you so that we can work together.
We start our year with an ‘All About Me’ theme as we get to know each other, develop relationships and friendships, get to know the setting and to understand the rules and expectations.
This is just the beginning!
We use the online Learning Journal Tapestry to share our observations with you and we always get very excited when you comment or share yours too!
Your child learns so much through all of the experiences and activities they do with you at home and on days out.
We don’t have weekly homework in Reception but we often ask for photographs or experiences to be shared and we may ask you to do an activity from time to time or send home some holiday challenges!
If you would like specific advice about what would benefit your child at home please see a member of the Reception Team and we will be happy to discuss individual ideas and next steps.
