Literacy Week:

This week we have been celebrating Literacy Week, which has culminated in a wonderful World Book Day with lots of amazing Myths and Legends costumes. On Wednesday night lots of children came back to school at 6pm for bedtime stories and the children enjoyed hearing our school adults reading some wonderful stories. We also had a Reading Breakfast yesterday morning and it was lovely having so many parents, carers, brothers, sisters, aunts , uncles and grandparents coming into school to share books with the children. Thanks to everyone who took time out from their busy schedules to come along. The children were also very ex-cited about our Where's Wally Hunt in the play-ground at lunchtime on Wednesday - all completed entries have been entered into a prize draw which was drawn during assembly this after-noon. The children have also been invited to design a book character from a potato - we had some amazing entries - the winners were announced in assembly today. Finally, Liga Kitchen has been working really hard with classes from Y2 - Y6 to produce book related art work to decorate our school library. Although this is a work in progress these wonderful pieces of work will help to make our library into a more appealing area for children to spend time in. Overall, it has been a fantastic week and we would like to thank all the children and parents / carers who have contributed to make it such a successful and enjoyable week.

International Women’s Day 8th March 2019

To mark the International Women’s day pupils across the school have been re-searching interesting facts about female scientists. We have learned about Tu Youyou, Alice Ball, Mae Jemison and Hypatia to mention just a few.

‘THINK’ WORKSHOP

Year 5 and 6 took part in a 'Think' workshop, where they discussed their thoughts on issues such as immigration, refugees, racism, bias and false information. We are so proud of the children as the trainers commented on how impressed they were with their prior knowledge and articulation

Science Morning

In the Science Week (25-29 March 2019) all classes will take part in various science activities. On Thursday 28th March parents/carers are invited to see a science lesson in their child’s class. We can accommodate up to five parents per class. Please book your place at the school office.

Hollickwood Young Gardeners

Our Young Gardeners submitted an exhibit colour design drawing to

be at this auspicious occasion!

A copy is on display in the school.
Work on its construction by the children got underway this week (4th March) with the older
Young Gardeners using tools to connect the foundation pieces together. As you can appreciate
this is a lot of work to complete in their lunchtimes.
So wish us luck.
please check the newsletter for the bits and pieces we need to collect to make this a real Hollickwood
