We are delighted that we have been awarded the Gold Level for safe & sustainable travel to school for the academic year 2017/18. A big thank to Mrs Stephanie Turner-Proud for all of her hard work and to the Hollickwood community for supporting us on this!

Early Years have exciting cooking activities planned and to make this possible we ask for a contribution from our parents each term. Payments have been set up on School Money and can be made online. Thank you and we hope you enjoy hearing about and tasting the delicious creations the children make (if you they make it home to you!)

Year 3

Have been learning about forces and magnets and how they interact. They have talked about how things move and how they don't go floating off into space. Investigating how magnets work and how different materials are affected by them. Huge thank you to our parents! The Science at Home projects are amazing!

The Earth is a very big magnet. Its North and South poles are highly magnetic. If you attach a bar magnet to a piece of wood and float it in a bowl of water, it will slowly turn and the magnet's North Pole will point towards the Earth's North Pole. Have a go!

The students of this week are:

  • Gabi – Year 6
  • Brian – Year 2

Congratulations to you both. Keep up the good work.

The overall attendance of the school this week was 96.8%.

With year 3 once again out in front with a fantastic 99.54%.Great work, well done and keep it up.

Annual Meeting on Reading

On Tuesday next week, we are holding our annual meeting on Reading, at 3:30pm in the main hall. There will input for each phase of the school on how we teach and how you can support your child. We will also be talking about Accelerated Reader, which is the scheme we are using to support progression in reading through quality books and online quizzes. Hope to see you all there.

School Trip

The children went to the British Museum & visited the Parthenon Gallery, where they used tablets. These were used to investigate the artefacts. All the children were thoroughly engaged and enjoyed their trip immensely.

Hollickwood’s Gardeners

need you!

Saturday 6th October 2–5pm

The children have been busy gardening all summer, but now we need a little adult help so that we are ready for autumn and the next stages.

We need help repairing our wooden planters, and tidying up the Wild Garden.

No skills necessary, but IF you have any DIY, carpentry or gardening tools, please bring them.

Thank you

School Meals

This is a reminder that all school meals need to be ordered via the School Money system in advance.

Unfortunately, by not booking your lunches online, then what happens is lunch number discrepancies occur and the school loses its valuable funds by guessing the numbers for the week.

Also many accounts have fallen into arrears. To avoid even more debt, if relevant to you, please send your child in with a packed lunch and settle your account as soon as possible

School Photos

All children had their individual and sibling photos taken on Wednesday and should have brought the order forms home by now.

The photographs can be ordered online or through the school office within 7 days to be delivered to school.

Please order by Thursday 4th October in order not to miss the deadline. After this date you will still be able to order individually, for an additional fee.

Your School Needs You! The Friends of Hollickwood are our PTA, organising events and raising funds to benefit the children, the school and the wider community. If your child is at Hollickwood you are automatically a Friend!

Last year we put on many fantastic events. To continue, we need parents or carers to get involved. Can you help organise and run events, or become a class rep?

Please come and enjoy Fireworks Night on the 5th of November from 5:30 to 7.30 pm.
