HAPPY 2017

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a peaceful break after a long and busy Autumn term, which we finished off with a Junior Concert full of festive songs. We wish you all a happy and healthy new year.

We would like to thank the Friends of Hollickwood for contributing the majority of the cost of our membership to Reading Eggs for the next year. This has enabled us to enrol all the children from Reception to Year 6. You will receive a letter with your child's username and password. Please en-sure your child makes the most of accessing this at home. Ideally working on it for 20 minutes to 30 minutes each night. Reading Eggs allows the children to improve their phonics / spelling and reading knowledge.

The children also have access to Reading Eggspress which is aimed at developing the children's comprehension skills, although there are also elements of grammar and vocabulary work included. We are very lucky to have this resource available to us ! Class teachers will be monitoring us-age. If you have a problem with your child accessing the internet at home or do not have a computer, please let your child's class teacher know so we can arrange a time at school for your child to use the computers.

Level 1 Cycle Training

Next week Year 3 have the exciting opportunity to learn some new cycling skills. Please ensure you bring back your consent form to ensure your child can participate in the training. We will be providing the children with bikes. Please ensure your child is suitably dressed to be outside.

We look forward to seeing you all cycle to school showing off your new skills this term.

Dr Bike

As part of our Bike It programme this year, Dr Bike will be paying a visit to Hollickwood school on Wednesday 11th January to give a FREE safety check and repair on bikes brought to school that day.

This is not a full service, but a safety check of the brakes, wheels, handle-bars, saddles and pedals with basic re-pairs, advice and suggestions for further work if it is needed. Priority will be given to children’s bikes but adults are welcome to bring theirs along and we will check them if there is time.

Don’t forget to bring your bike to school that day! AND DO NOT LOCK IT.
