Year 3

Fractions are not hard anymore :)

Inspired by the visit at La Porchetta, Year 3 made their own pizzas. The children chose a number for the ingredients and wrote addition and subtraction fraction equations.

Year 6 Good night Mister Tom

Year 6 have been studying Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian which is the story of Willie, an evacuee, who goes to live with an older gentleman in Little Weirwold. In their English lessons, the children wrote in role as Mr Tom to his departed wife, asking for help and advice on how to look after Willie. They used the letters to expand noun phrases that created vivid descriptions of Willie and used emotive language to show Mr Tom’s concern. The children’s letters were on display in the hall this week.

Science is Fun!

In Science club the children made slime, a thick and slippery liquid substance. They will continue to experiment with it next week.

Nursery and Year 1—Discovery centre visit

Thank you to the parents who came with us to visit the discovery centre this week. We had some very excited children on the coach journey. The discovery centre is currently based around the author Julia Donaldson and we were welcomed into a world inside the book. We saw the characters come to life and learned about ‘What makes a book.’ The children then thought of their own titles and started to think about the characters they could create.

Year 5

On Thursday, Year 5 had the opportunity to work with Liz, from the Konflux Theatre in Education company. Focusing on road safety, the children put together a short play, which they performed to KS1 and KS2 at the end of the day! This involved being TV presenters, motorists, pedestrians and even TV screens and parts of a car! Hopefully, KS1 and KS2 will remember the valuable lessons learned!

For example:

Adults wearing a seat belt whilst travelling in a car;
Children in car seats;
Not using your mobile phones while you're crossing the road;
Never leave a car running ( Pollution!)
Try to 'car share' if you drive to school - to help prevent extra omissions!
Well done Year 5 for a brilliant performance!

International Women's Day 2018

All year groups researched and spoke about inspirational women this week to celebrate International women’s day. ( some of us here at school were lucky enough to be gifted a single rose from one of our Nursery students– Thank you Aron) Take a look below at some of the posters the child have produced.

Friends of Hollickwood

We have been in the wild garden this week seeing if our Frogs survived the Beast from the east. Despite not finding the frogs we have signs of life. So with fingers crossed we are confident we will see the frogs again soon.

Reception have been busy helping to plant the potatoes, we’re excited to see the results from this.
