Take part this half term in our sponsored Reading and Listening campaign

To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school, we will be running a sponsored read for KS1 and KS2 and a sponsored listen for Early Years between Friday 20th October and Monday 30th October (Half Term).
The project is being organised in conjunction with our local Usborne Organiser and Mrs Turner-Proud, and all the money raised will go towards brand new books for our school.

In addition to the sponsorship money, Usborne also will donate up to 60% of the total raised in EXTRA FREE BOOKS to the school. So for every £600 raised, we will get an extra £360 in FREE Usborne books!

Please help us to enhance our reading resources for pupils by encouraging your child to spend a small amount of time each day either reading to themselves, to others, or being read to. They can read anything with words (for example comics, recipes, magazines) for as long or as little as they like.

All money raised should be returned to school by Friday 10th November , any cheques to be made payable to Hollickwood School

Black History Month

For Black History Month we invited the theatre company, Caboodle, to perform Building Bridges. They performed on Wednesday 18th October to all children in KS1 & KS2.

The show, Building Bridges, tells the story of Ruby Bridges, a courageous little girl who played a crucial role in building bridges between all-white and all-black communities. At 6 years old, she became the first black child to attend an all-white school. The performance shows the prejudice she faced, and how through her innocence – and a few good people – she overcame everything and helped society take that all-important step towards integration.

The cost of this performance and other performances or workshops throughout the year, will be paid for by a voluntary parental donation (as per the letter emailed with last weeks newsletter) Our aim is to offer opportunities which support and enhance your child’s learning with engaging and exciting learning experiences in all curriculum areas.

We return to School on Tuesday 31st October

Please remember to book in for Breakfast and After school club 24 hours in advance or your child will not be able to attend. We do hope your children are enjoying the new healthier food choices available.

May we remind you not use the Car park as an entrance, please use the main gate.

Mayor Brian Salinger meeting the children wearing red to show support to Show Racism the Red Card. Thank you all for your donations the money raised will be split between both charities. The Mayors Fund for homeless in Barnet and Show Racism the Red Card.
